The Equality Standard: A Framework for Sport
In 2006, NAKMAS Management committed to achieving The Equality Standard: A Framework for Sport. The main goal was equality for everyone within NAKMAS.
In June 2008, NAKMAS achieved the Foundation level of the Standard which was fundamentally about demonstrating our commitment to equality through the organisation.
Since then, The NAKMAS Management and Equality Teams have gone onto use the data collected to put together an Equality Action Plan. Together with this several policies and documentation have been reviewed and rewritten to reflect the objectives of equality. An extensive training needs analysis has also been undertaken and staff and management have been given training where necessary to fulfil the requirements of the standard, and to enhance their knowledge and understanding of equality issues. These tasks are the basis of the Preliminary level which NAKMAS achieved on the 10 June 2009.
If any members or interested organisations have any comments about what NAKMAS have done so far, or any suggestions for the future with regards to equality, I would be more than pleased to hear them.
I will be happy to keep you informed of our progress, and we have now started work on the Intermediate level. Only two organisations currently hold this level, so it is obviously not an easy task and guidelines state that it takes a minimum of two years after Preliminary level achievement.
