NAKMAS joins ''elite'' British Sport with latest accolate

Black Belt Grading

On Saturday the 17th of December 5 students from the Shinseikyu Karate Academy in Harlow attempted to grade for their Shodan (Black belt), the grading consisted of Kihon (Basics|) Renraku (Combinations), Kumite (Fighting), Kata (Prearranged sequences) & Hunbi Undo (Supplementary Drills/Exercises) as well as a thesis on various aspects of Karate practice.

The grading Lasted for 3 hours & all students were tested on technique, power, ability & sunshine (Awareness) in their practice, 5 different types of Kumite were demonstrated the last being Irumi (Unrestricted) where there are no rules on hitting your opponent.

In the last section when the students are flagging is where the heart 7 Mind has to take over from the physical pain (Strong Mind strong Body), the students all had to break ten roofing tiles with any technique they chose this is known as Tamishiwara. All were successful in this aspect of the grading.

At the end of the grading the results were as follows.

Sky Mulvey , Paige Mulvey, Tommy Judd & Elliott Preator all passed Shodan (Black Belt) with one non pass on the day.

The grading Panel was as follow Sensei Jeff Bessent, Sensei Neil Methven & Sensei Tairo Shindo.

Sensei Shindo was a guest examiner invited by Sensei Bessent, he was on the Japanese Kyokushinkai Knockdown team & was graded Masutatsu Oyama Shihan.

Shinseikyu Karate Academy is a member of The National Association of Karate & Martial Arts Schools (NGB).
