  1. No, you do not have to fight someone. When people first hear about kickboxing classes they think "oh that's exactly what I see in the movies". The will actually visualize guys and girls fighting each other in the ring within fitness gyms and centres. They are very wrong. In fact, most of the time the classes offered consist of intense, calorie-burning workout sessions conducted WITHOUT physical contact. You DON'T have to fight anyone! If you're hesitant to take a kickboxing class because you're scared you'll have to take physical abuse from another person, don't be. Kickboxing classes prioritise the fitness aspect of the workout without making students spar each other.
  2. It's not as hard as you think it is. People sometimes think we make our students kick trees with their shins to condition them, or make them run 25 miles daily. Perhaps even hanging meat carcasses for them to punch. The movies have a lot to answer for! The classes require a lot of physical activity but nothing like that mentioned above. There may be many press ups, sit ups and such like. Beginners are taught how to punch and kick properly. Yes, in the beginning it will be difficult and tiring, but over time it becomes easier.
  3. It's not as easy as you think it is. Many gyms offer cardio kickboxing classes where students do not use boxing gloves or pads. They simply punch in the air. Our classes use both and it is different experience altogether. Yes, you will sweat. Yes, it will make you breath hard. Yes, it will tire you out. Isn't that why we exercise?
  4. No, the Instructor isn't trying to kill you. Many students will think that the Instructor is actually trying to kill them during and after their first class. We push students and encourage them to get the most out of the classes. It may seem like we're on your case at the time, but think about the sense of achievement you're going to feel when you've completed a class.
  5. Yes, you will get addicted. The feeling you get after a class is like nothing you've felt before. Your fitness will improve. You'll learn how to defend yourself. You'll tone your body and become more flexible. You'll become more confident. It can be life changing.

The club has been running as Tamashii Sento Aiki Ju Jitsu since 2000 under the guidance of Norman White. So in the summer of 2012 the club became independent and renamed Eight Waves School Of Martial Arts. The name reflects several concepts adhered to in our art and that we live by the sea, some of us even get in it it from time to time.

Choi Kwang Do is not designed for competition and does not have the intensity of sports training. The system is meant for the average individual who wants to learn real-life, practical self-defence skills and achieve a greater level of health and well-being, not people solely interested in winning trophies. Because it's a limited contact, nonfighting, non-competitive art that stresses mental, physical, emotional and social development, Choi Kwang Do promotes nonviolent resolutions to conflict, practical solutions to cardiovascular improvement, and enjoyable methods of exercise.

In addition, with competition removed, students can continually develop—not against each other, but with each other. With a progressive system from White belt to highest level of Black belt, Choi Kwang Do always offers you something new and challenging to learn, experience and enjoy.

Their training is based on individual needs, capabilities, skill levels and age. Their students range in years from 5 to 50+, and their Instructor Team has over 70 years experience in Martial Arts. Since their primary goals are to prevent or reduce illness and disease and to promote optimum health and longevity by minimizing degeneration of body and mind, they also welcome those with limitations. Everyone is welcome at Choi Kwang Do.

They currently work closely with local Schools and have been issued in the SE9 magazine on a number of occasions.

Judo began in the late 1800's and was founded by Dr gigoro Kano who was a master grade in Jiu-jitsu. Judo was created as Kano felt that Jiu-jitsu was going in the wrong direction at the time, as it was being practiced on many who didn't practice the martial art which caused injuries.

Judo became an Olympic sport in 1964 and since been added to the commonwealth games and in 2015 was added to the European games in Baku.

Judo translates into the gentle way and promotes respect, self discipline, mutual benefit and maximum efficiency.

Anthony Wendt in the Chief Instructor of the Future Martial Art and was born and bred in Richmond, and it was always his dream to bring Choi Kwang-Do back to his home town.

Born in 1975, Anthony showed an interest in martial arts at a very early age. Anthony started Choi Kwang-Do in Richmond at the age of 14, and was a regular and devoted student for the next 4 years.

Due to the closure of the Richmond location, Anthony was forced to postpone training in Choi Kwang-Do. During this time, Anthony continued with his studies at college in Business, with Accounts being his chosen career. He also experimented with various martial arts, including Kickboxing and Kung Fu.

In 2002 Anthony returned to Choi Kwang-Do more determined and focused than ever. Anthony now realised that Choi Kwang-Do had the answers that other systems were missing.

Under the tutelage of Jason Wright, Anthony was awarded Assistant Instructor status in 2003 and obtained 1st Degree Black Belt in 2004. Anthony then became a Chief Instructor in 2005.

In 2006, Anthony reached his next goal, gaining his 2nd Degree Black Belt.
He knew the time was then right to look upon opening his own school in his home town.

Since then, there has been no stopping him! In June 2013, Anthony was promoted to the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt and International Instructor. Anthony was presented his belt by Grandmaster Choi at the 25th Anniversary Seminar at Harrow Leisure Centre.

Choi Kwang-Do Richmond first opened its doors in July 2007, and has built a reputation of first class tuition. Anthony teaches and trains regularly twice a week. Choi Kwang-Do is back in Richmond!

Herts Choi Kwang Do

The history of Herts Choi Kwang Do goes back to 1981 with Mr Peter Wake and the opening of the Hitchin CKD School. Mr Wake began his martial arts training that year studying the traditional Korean art of Tae Kwon Do at RAF Henlow. By 1984, he had attained the rank of not only black belt, but also Chief Instructor. Shortly after qualifying as a Chief Instructor, he took over the running of the school.

On 16th February 1986, a young Mr Simon Sparrow joined the Henlow Tae Kwon Do School under the instruction of Mr Wake.

Introduction of Choi Kwang Do

Two years later, in 1988, the school converted from Tae Kwon Do to Choi Kwang Do, the martial art of Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi, an 8th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

In 1989, the newly formed Choi Kwang Do school relocated to Hitchin, firstly to Bancroft Park Halls, and then in 1990 to its current location at the Town Hall Gymnasium.

Mrs Wake gained her Chief Instructor status in 1991, and that year, Mr & Mrs Wake established their second Choi Kwang Do school in Stevenage. This school ran until 1992. This school was re-opened in Stevenage in 1998 at its current location, the Stevenage Leisure Centre. Mr Sparrow became it's main Chief Instructor and joint school owner following his Chief Instructor qualification 2 years earlier.

In 1998, Mr Wake became the UK Choi Kwang Do Association chairman and both himself and Mrs Wake took on the huge responsibility of running the UK side of Choi Kwang Do.

In 1999, Mr Mark Foster became a Chief Instructor and established a children's club at Hitchin. He joined the other students to qualify as Instructors and move on to start their own clubs, notably, Mr Darren Busby, St Neots Choi Kwang Do and Sandy Choi Kwang Do. Mr Foster then went on to establish Royston Choi Kwang Do in October 2000. Hitchin has also produced a vast number of Assistant Instructors.

Tragedy and new beginnings

July 2000 saw the tragic death of Mr Wake and was a devastating blow to the Hitchin club which he had founded. The club continued with Mr Simon Sparrow as the main Chief Instructor under the guidance of Mrs Wake.

In January 2002, Mr Huggins and Mr Renney qualified as Chief Instructors and took over the Hitchin Junior school from Mr Foster. As junior students progress and mature, they transfer from the junior to the adult school ensuring a more tailored type of tuition.

Mr Sparrow had been a partner in the Stevenage school since its opening and went on to take full ownership in April 2003.

At the end of 2003 he founded the Stevenage children's school and went on to take over Hitchin school ownership from Mrs Wake in April 2004.

One month later, he also took over Royston school ownership from Mr Mark Foster and started a children's school at this location the following September.

Mr Sparrow now runs an after school program at the John Henry Newman School in Stevenage. As well as the John Henry Newman class - Hitchin, Stevenage Junior and Adults and Royston Juniors and Adults are now formed together as Herts CKD. Herts CKD continues to produce a steady number of Chief Instructors, Head Instructors and Assistant Instructors.

In May 2006, Assistant Instructor Mark France from the Royston school was promoted to Chief Instructor and opened his first school in Thornton Heath, Surrey.

The club belongs to the Dentokan worldwide organisation, the Sekai Dentokan Bugei Renmei. The club instructor, Neil (6th dan), is the personal student of Roy Hobbs, the head of the Dentokan worldwide.

They are a non-profit community-focussed club open to everyone. No club membership fees, no grading fees, no hidden costs. In addition, under 16s can train free with an adult family member. The core martial art is Aiki Jutsu. This focuses on learning principles of movement so as to make the best use of body weight to take control of an opponent's balance and posture. This could involve throwing an opponent or employing various methods of joint locking. Kamishin Ryu Aiki Jujutsu. This is a very practical style, which compliments the Aiki Jutsu, incorporating the principles but also enabling students to learn a very comprehensive range of techniques. Goshin Jutsu. This basically means 'self-defence' and is a syllabus designed purely to allow our students to apply their knowledge in very practical situations including some groundwork. Iaijutsu. This literally means 'techniques of drawing the sword'. All aiki jutsu movements were originally based on the body movements of sword combat. As there is a traditional martial art they ensure that regular practise is done with sword – mainly the wooden training sword (bokken). Their main style is Toyama Ryu but they also incorporate other styles. They also practise with Jo (wooden staff) hanbo (short wooden staff) and tanto (wooden knife).

Tae kwon-do is the spectacular Korean Martial Art of Kicks and Self Defence

Let's take a closer look at the meaning of the word "Tae" "Kwon" "Do." It is composed of three parts as shown in the English spelling, though it is one word in Korean. "Tae" means "foot," "leg," or "to step on"; "Kwon" means "fist," or "fight"; and "Do" means the "way" or "discipline." If we put these three parts together, we can see two important concepts behind "Tae Kwon Do".

Tae kwon-do means "the right way of using all parts of the body to stop fights and help to build a better and more peaceful world."

Tae kwon-do is very different from many such oriental martial arts. First, physically it is very dynamic with active movements that include a mirage of foot skills. Second, the principle physical movements are in simpatico with that of the mind and life as a whole. Third, it possesses dynamic poses from another perspective.

Tae kwon-do pursues harmonious growth and improvements of life through its unique activities. This is why one could say Tae kwon-do is a way of life. To ultimately enable ourselves to lead more valuable lives, we would do well by finding the guiding principles deeply hidden in Tae kwon-do.
Their classes start from 3 years to 6 years in their Lil Dragons programme where their youngsters learn martial arts through fun based activities. This is a safe enviroment with a non contact approach to training, using targets to develop their range of skills. They can improve balance, co-ordination, concentration, confidence and physical performance. A confident and active child is far less likely to be a target for bullies.

Their Karate kids programme is an ideal way to have similar age and size children training and learning together in a fun and energetic class.

Suitable for the age range 7 to 11 years, theyr have the same syllabus as the teens and adults including semi contact sparring with protective equipment, but without the bigger children and adults taking all the space! more freedom to perform with their friends makes for a class aimed directly at their own leaning. A free trial is available.

This is where parents and children over 7 can train together and build fantastic family bonds. They pride themselves on being a family orientated class.
A family who trains together, stays together!

For those who will start to need a little more to reach their goals, they have sessions specific to intermediates and senior grades, these are also suitable for keen adults who would rather work in a class away from young beginners. These sessions are often as extra time after family class or as a stand alone session dedicated to higher grade levels.

Aikido can benefit everyone to improve health and fitness...

The formal and more spiritual aspect can appeal to certain students, whilst the sports side appeals to others. Its full and natural body movement has aerobic benefits for all.

When practised regularly it will develop a fitter, more supple and stronger body with improved flexibility, reflexes and reactions. You will harmonise with the natural forces of energy and improve your everyday lifestyle.

In a conflict situation, the body, joints, posture and the mind are all vulnerable areas.
Aikido is a self-defence based on exploiting the weaknesses of an opponent by turning the opponent's power against them using the exact degree of control required to neutralise their energy without inflicting undue harm or injury.

A training syllabus may be followed for those who wish to progress through the promotion grades.
Their Club is based at the New 'NE-Sport & Fitness centre. They provide a wide range of classes which cater for different age groups and levels starting at 3 years. Take a look at what they can offer you in their designated Classes Page via their website.
Kendo, 'The Way of The Sword', embodies the essence of the Japanese fighting arts. Since the earliest samurai government in Japan, during the Kamakura period (1185-1233), sword fencing, together with horse-riding and archery, were the main martial pursuits of the military clans. In this period Kendo developed under the strong influence of Zen Buddhism. The samurai could equate the disregard for his own life in the heat of battle, which was considered necessary for victory in individual combat, to the Buddhist concept of the illusory nature of the distinction between life and death. Since that time many warriors have become enlightened through Kendo practice. Those swordsmen established schools of Kendo training which continued for centuries, and which form the basis of Kendo practice today. The names of the schools reflect the essence of the originator's enlightenment. Thus the Itto-ryu (Single sword school) indicates the founder's illumination that all possible cuts with the sword emanate from, and are contained in, one original essential cut. The Muto (swordless school) expresses the comprehension of the originator Yamaoka Tesshu, that "There is no sword outside the mind". The 'Munen Muso Ryu' (No Intent, No preconception) similarly expresses the understanding that the essence of Kendo transcends the reflective thought process.

The formal Kendo exercises, set down sometimes several centuries ago, are studied today using wooden swords in set forms, or 'kata' and uninhibited sword fencing using bamboo practice swords and substantial armour both by formal exercises and free fencing. Thus today it is possible to embark on the quest for spiritual enlightenment followed by the samurai of old. Concepts such as 'Mushin', or 'empty mind' as professed by exponents of Zen are an essential attainment for high level Kendo. Fudo-Shin, or 'Unmoving Mind', a conceptual attribute of the deity Fudo Myo-O, one of the five 'Kings of Light' of Shingon Buddhism, implies that the fencer cannot be led astray by delusions of anger, doubt, fear, or surprise arising from his opponent's actions.

Many of these concepts are relevant to other arts, like Judo, calligraphy, and the Tea Ceremony, but they are more readily comprehended in Kendo because the formal 'kata' exercises which were designed to express them can be performed in free practice at all levels from beginner to master swordsman. Other advantages of Kendo are that it can be practised by both young and old irrespective of natural ability. Physical fitness may be an advantage, but it is not essential. Thus young children and beginners can practice constructively and enjoyably with skilful people of advanced age. There are many formidable Kendo exponents of advanced age, even as old as eighty or ninety years, who can beat young champions a fraction of their age.

Kendo teaches methods of breathing to produce reserves of energy although you may be thoroughly tired. 'Ki-ai' shouting during fencing aids the circulation, and imparts vigour to the mind and body. Since the armour is fully protective, Kendo study should not be painful so you can overcome fear of aggression, and learn to remain calm in face of adversity through ordinary practice. Above all Kendo is enjoyable, and you will be welcome in any club in any country in which Kendo is practised. Teaching in Kendo is mutual, and the Kendo adherent will always find someone who will help him freely and willingly throughout his life, until he reaches the highest level of all as an enlightened swordsman. However there are few such persons. Since Kendo depends on mutual help, it is not run in order to make a financial profit. In the U.K. the instructors are proud of their amateur status, and you will never be expected to pay more than a share of running costs.

Budo is an ideal Martial Art for all age groups, boys or girls of varying sizes and abilities.

Confidence and self-esteem are improved as a practitioner progresses through the ranks and the very nature of the grading system ensures that the next goal is always realistic and achievable with effort.

Budo Training is an ideal form of physical exercise and serves as a great cardiovascular workout, which improves stamina, general health and overall fitness.

The Martial Arts develop self ~ discipline and respect that practitioners have for themselves and others .

As well as building self ~ confidence , Budo training also assists in addressing issues such as passivity and a lack of assertiveness.

The S.S.B.K Martial arts upholds the principal that all children whatever their age , culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and / or sexual identity have the right to participate in the Martial Arts.

The Society and the Sensei's are committed to the welfare and protection of children so that they can enjoy sporting activities in safety .

We create this through a stable programme, where the Sensei's (teachers) are always cheerful, approachable and resourceful.

Our daily thoughts and actions should be directed towards the benefit of others. The mountains, trees and rivers change their appearance with the vicissitudes of time and seasons, as a man changes with his experiences and emotions.

Friends are very important; as are a friendly manner and a genuine smile.

The S.S.B.K Martial Arts is dedicated to all those Sensei's and Trainee Sensei's who carry the flickering lantern of light so that others may follow, and to those students who stumble and fall along the path of Budo, unable to proceed by themselves.

The S.S.B.K Martial Arts hopes that through the practice of Martial Arts you may in some way improve your life and the lives of those around you.
Sooyang Do
Scotland (North East)
Since the founding of Sooyang Do on 19th May 2003, it has become firmly established as the most popular martial art in the North East of Scotland, with around 1000 active participants and 30 separate locations at the time of writing.

The individual and collective dedication of our instructors, which has brought us to this position, has also led to us being the first martial arts organisation to be awarded CLUBCAP and subsequently advanced CLUBCAP accreditation from both Aberdeenshire Council, and Aberdeen City Council, a level of recognition which reinforces our standing as a responsibly and scrupulously run organisation.

All of their instructors hold up to date First Aid certification, PVG Accreditation and Public Liability Insurance and also regularly attend nationally recognised additional third party coaching sessions to continually improve their coaching skills and to reinforce their awareness of issues such as those surrounding the teaching of children and vulnerable adults.

Sooyang Do is specifically designed to be suitable for all ages (5 upwards) and for all ability levels. No previous martial arts experience is necessary and the main requirement is enthusiasm.

Each belt level has a formal syllabus, which must be learned and demonstrated to an acceptable standard, to enable the student to progress to the next level. The technical progress of each student is monitored by way of grading events (belt examinations) which are held every three months and students must train, on average, twice per week to be eligible for grading.

Springwater Taekwondo, an independent organisation. At Springwater Taekwondo, they realise that there are many reasons for taking up Martial Arts. The reasons for training are often as varied and diverse as the students themselves. They do their best to accommodate each individual. They hope their extensive syllabus will cover everyone's needs and enable them to become skilled at Taekwondo.

Taekwondo translates to Foot, Hand, Way (or Art) in English. It is more often called the Way of Hand and Foot. Taekwondo is both a modern martial art and a combat sport that develops to become a way of life. Although modern, its' roots can be traced back to ancient Korea. To the untrained eye much of the art can resemble other martial arts due to the influence these have had over its' development but Taekwondo has a vast range of technique. It is most famous for its' incredible range of fast, high kicking skills.

Surrey Kick Boxing can trace its roots back to the Japanese Martial Art of Mugendo - "Unlimited Way".

In short, the traditions and styles of various martial arts have been incorporated into the current teaching philosophy of Surrey Kick Boxing with core emphasis on fitness, technique and self accomplishment of the individual student.

Originally established in 1985, (and previously known as Shannons) Surrey Kick Boxing is recognised by its students as being one of a friendly and family orientated club where the onus of training is not based solely on a grading system but based on the individual, his/her skill set and what they wish to achieve from the sport.

Teaching to music is also incorporated to all their classes, be it as part of the warm-up, stretch, high impact exercise, techniques, sparring or cool down - it is a fundamental part of our teaching methodology and makes for a great environment in which to train.

Of course, with many martial arts the opportunity to spar with your peers is one of the key elements and teaching principals. The club enforces a strict semi-contact policy (i.e. technique, fitness, control and respect).

Their aim is to ensure students enjoy our lessons.

What can improve your balance and co-ordination ,increase the ability to focus and concentrate, relieve stress and leave you feeling mentally energised?

No not some miracle drug but Tai Chi

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of physical exercise for the body mind and spirit; a type of 'moving meditation'. It is an internal martial art which means that it is not combative, however the moves do originate from fighting techniques. Its graceful patterns and spiritual and philosophical background make it an ideal way to improve balance and co-ordination,reduce stress increase stamina and suppleness.

A sequence of slow controlled gentle and graceful movements help the body to relax, which in time creates more suppleness, allows the mind to be still relieving stress and tension and bringing a sense of balance.

There is a therapeutic and appropriate quality to Tai Chi practise. It is an ideal antidote for today's hectic lifestyles. It is not a cure, quick fix or some miracle form of exercise, to feel the long term benefits you do need to practise on a regular basis. .
But if you are determined to suceed, helping yourself whilst having fun and learning something new then Tai Chi is for you.
Why wait give it a go.

The Noble Art of TETSUDO has it's roots in Tibet and it's essence lies in the cornerstone that Mind and Body are inextricably linked and changes in one causes changes in the other and only when both are working harmoniously together can anything be done efficiently and effectively.

TETSUDO training makes the BODY physically strong, agile and healthy and the MIND to become more aware, perceptive and focused..... and when the two are in Harmony.... then the seemingly impossible becomes possible.

The skills learnt through the practice of TETSUDO offer profound benefits to EVERYONE regardless of age, gender or fitness level. TETSUDO is a Holistic Martial Art. It is a unique therapeutic experience for both Mind and Body and as such it is much more than just a means of physical self-defence.... it is the COMPLETE SELF-DEFENCE.
Inaugurated in June 1998 in Irvine, Scotland, the fraternity was originally an amalgamation of three separate dojo's (one in England and two in Scotland) into one club, three dojo's.

It came into being to cement over twenty years of continuous friendship, joint practice and joint teaching of Aikido and related arts, between the three senior instructors; Chris Moslin , 6th Dan, David Walker 4th Dan, Andrew Henderson 4th Dan each of whom has 38 years or more of unbroken martial arts experience plus Aileen Jeffrey 3rd Dan with over 14 years of experience.

This key friendship between Chris, David, and Andrew began when they met at a course by the great Aikido master and Ki exponent Hans von Rolbeck, 9th Dan Aikido and Ki-Jutsu. He was teaching various aspects of Ki and Ki-Jutsu, at the Dojo in the Barr Head Sports Centre, Glasgow. This initial meeting led eventually to the clubs getting together to form the Aiki Budo Fraternity which has since grown steadily, as more club instructors become disenchanted with the internal politics of their associations One of the main tenets of the fraternity is that it opens it's doors to everyone, without exception.

Politics are banned and anyone attempting to politicise club meetings given short shrift. The clubs are friendly and open minded about styles taught, although they must be seen to work!! Although originally founded for Aiki style Martial Art clubs the Fraternity is now open to all styles. However all instructors wishing to join the Fraternity must have a proven Martial Arts background and recognised qualifications and grading history in their style. The nominated Chief Instructor of each club is automatically a member of the Fraternity Committee which decides on policy within the Fraternity.

The Aiki Budo Fraternity does not interfere with the running of associated clubs. They welcome instructors from other associations to come along and train with them and, if they so wish, to pass on some of there own knowledge to their students. All clubs which are full members of the Fraternity.

Associated in friendship and Honorary Members are: Adam Richardson 4th Dan, British Fuma Ryu Ninjutsu Society and Robert Lilley 2nd Dan, Black Panther Jujutsu Clubs. Both now hold membership of the Aiki Budo Fraternity. Adam-san runs his own Society but is closely affiliated to the highest order in Japan and he has conferred upon Chris Moslin Honorary Membership of the British Fuma Ryu society.
The Falcons Kickboxing Club is a friendly competitive kickboxing club for all age groups. Based in Thanet (Kent).

Kickboxing is often practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a full-contact sport. In the full-contact sport the male boxers are bare-chested wearing shorts and protective gear including: mouth-guard, hand-wraps, 10-oz. boxing gloves, groin-guard, shin-pads, kick-boots, and optional protective helmet (usually for those under 16). The female boxers will wear a tank top and chest protection in addition to the male clothing/protective gear. In European kickboxing, where kicks to the thigh are allowed using special low-kick rules, use of boxing shorts instead of long trousers is possible.
Etheric boxing is a unique system of kung fu that is fundamentally eclectic, as are almost all traditional styles of Kung fu. It draws from influences and qualities from all the Chinese internal martial arts (Xing Yi, Tai Chi, Ba Gua and Yi Quan) as well as Wing Chun and western boxing.

You will learn about internal kung fu qualities that are developed through exercises such as Zhan Zhuang (standing), slow walking and Shi li (trial of strength). These are combined with exercises such as Chi Sau and combat based drills to develop fighting skills that will be effective and powerful.

Etheric Boxing is a formally graded syllabus that allows for the individual development of each student whilst adhering to the strict requirements of the grade. This is achieved by having exclusively private one-on-one tuition.
The Samurai Fitness Group
Berks, Bucks, Hert and Oxon
The Samurai Fitness Group likes to think it is different from other children's martial art classes in the UK because it was established solely for children and their classes are split by age.

Little Samurai (Age 4 to 7)
These kickboxing classes focus on developing;

Life skills such as confidence, social interaction, self discipline and awareness of the danger of strangers
Physical skills including fitness, balance and coordination.

They are non-aggressive and targeted towards the developmental stages of this age range, so include lots of games incorporating kickboxing techniques.

Most of all, they are great fun!

Classes are limited to 16.

Young Samurai (Age 7 to 11)

Young Samurai classes continue to focus on the life and physical skills that are taught to Little Samurais but there is also more advanced kickboxing, incorporating self-protection and anti-bullying techniques, pad work and optional light sparring. They are an ideal way to instil confidence in children. They also give the students a perfect grounding to prepare them for the Samurai Kickboxing syllabus for those aged 12 and above.

Classes are limited to 16.

Samurai Kickboxing (Age 11 to 14 &14 to 16)

These classes focus on developing our students into confident and 'street wise' young adults, skills that we feel are incredibly important as they start socialising away from the home.

They make their students aware of some of the dangers they may be faced with as they get older and provide them with the confidence to use de-escalating techniques and positive body language in aggressive situations... kickboxing out of class is always discouraged.

The syllabus also focuses on fitness, leadership and team-work. The kickboxing and sparring techniques learnt in the younger age groups are developed at this stage and stepped up in both technical difficulty and physical intensity.

Adult Kickboxing - Age 17+

There are two aspects to our adult classes; (1) developing all-round fitness (2) focusing on the technical aspect of kickboxing. Their lessons will combine the two so that you learn how to do techniques properly. They also believe in teaching self-protection; where, when and how to strike.

If you are looking for a class where you're learning something as well as getting a good work out, then their adult lessons are ideal for you! You'll certainly leave most of our classes knowing you've worked hard!

All of our class locations and times are available via their website on the 'Class Schedule' link:

What is Kempo Jitsu? Well The word Kempo means "Fist Law," Jitsu meaning the image of a style and art form. Essentially something taken to its highest level.

Historically speaking, Kempo first came into existence in Japan during the Edo period, which started roughly around 1600. Schools of Jujutsu that combined their art with Chinese Chuan Fa would come to call themselves KempoJu-Jitsu this was originally a Japanese Martial Art that began with the training of the Samurai Warriors to defend themselves on the battlefields of feudal Japan. Using the sword (Katana) and other weapons, on foot and on horseback dressed in full armour made from bamboo, the Samurai went to war. The Art of Ju Jitsu was taught separately, and was to be used if the Samurai was unhorsed, and had lost his weapons. Unarmed, the Samurai would still be in a position to defend himself against both armed, or unarmed enemy. The aim was the same as with unarmed combat skills today; maim, incapacitate or kill the attacker and escape to fight again.

They train every Saturday morning at Becket Sport Centre in Dartford, children's beginner class starts at 9am, adult class starts at 11am.

The club is open to all people who want to partake in a club that values and develops discipline, respect and focus. It's a club that encourages personal insights and development as well as teaching self-defence.

Whether an adult or a child, learning karate will teach you discipline, respect, improve your fitness, give you confidence, improve concentration and also teach you a useful new skill.

If you are interested in joining the club, you can just turn up to one of the classes wearing loose clothing such as t-shirt and jogging bottoms and join in, the first lesson is free. Parents are welcome to stay and watch.
Yoshin Ryu started in the late seventies as a collection of clubs based in youth centres and sports halls around the Croydon area run by Errol Field as its Founder and Senior Coach.

Then in the mid nineties Errol purchased an old church in Coulsdon and converted it into a full time dojo and HQ of Yoshin Ryu. This building was called Coulsdon Martial Arts.

The dojo now hosts classes 6 days of the week and special events, such as competitions and grading's are held on Sundays. Please see the Classes section via their website for a description of the different martial arts on offer and the Timetable section for information on times, and who would be best suited to each class.

The club is very active in each of its disciplines regularly competing in local, national and international competitions as well as providing displays for schools, festivals and we are often called upon to provide genuine martial artists for television programs.

The school was first opened in January 2013 by Miss Kimberly Ralph after she moved from London to Bolton and found there was no Choi Kwang Do school nearby.

Turton School of Choi Kwang Do is an inclusive, welcoming school aiming to grow and establish itself in the local community. Our goal is to improve the fitness and well-being of their students, giving as many people the gift of Choi Kwang Do as possible.
The corner stone of our school is to provide each student with the support and personal attention they need to enable them to achieve their goals, both within Choi Kwang Do and in life.
